Title: Nebula M27 – Dumbbell Nebula
Technique: Oil on canvas
Object Name: Nebula M27 – NGC 6853
Distance: 1,300 light-years
Viewing Direction: Constellation Vulpecula
This artwork depicts a portion of Nebula M27, also known as the Dumbbell Nebula, located approximately 1,300 light-years away in the constellation Vulpecula. It is one of the most recognizable planetary nebulae – the remnant of a Sun-like star that, near the end of its life, expelled its outer layers of gas into space. We can observe the diffuse glow of ionized gases, primarily hydrogen and oxygen, which produce the nebula’s characteristic red and blue hues.
Using oil paints and soft transitions, the artist evokes a sense of levitation and silence. The delicate details of this section of the nebula reflect the serene beauty of a natural process, in which a dying star gives rise to a glowing cloud of gas that stretches into the void. This painting is not only a depiction of an astronomical phenomenon, but also a symbolic farewell – a quiet departure of a luminous celestial body into eternity.
