Title: Helix Nebula – The Eye of God
Technique: Oil on canvas

Object Name: Helix Nebula – The Eye of God – NGC 7293
Distance: 650 light-years
Viewing Direction: Constellation Aquarius

This painting depicts the Helix Nebula (NGC 7293), one of the most well-known planetary nebulae, located about 650 light-years from Earth in the constellation Aquarius. Often referred to as the “Eye of God”, the nebula is recognizable by its distinctive ring-like structure, reminiscent of a human eye. It is the remnant of a dying star, similar to our Sun, which has shed its outer layers of gas into interstellar space near the end of its life cycle. At the center remains a white dwarf – the hot, dense core of the former star – whose radiation illuminates the surrounding gas and makes the nebula glow.

The translucent layers of color, interwoven shades of blue, turquoise, and reddish tones, symbolize both the disintegration and the peaceful beauty of a star’s death. This work is not merely a scientific visualization, but also a symbol of the cycle of life, evoking in the viewer a sense of tranquility, impermanence, and the natural elegance of a star’s final chapter.
