Title: M45 – The Pleiades from the Other Side of the Universe
Technique: Oil on canvas
This painting portrays the Pleiades (M45)—one of the most iconic open star clusters in the night sky—but not as seen from Earth. The artist invites us to an imaginary vantage point elsewhere in the Galaxy, where the cluster radiates from a new perspective, detached from our familiar point of view. The Pleiades are located about 445 light-years away in the constellation Taurus and comprise several hundred stars, although only seven to nine of the brightest are visible to the naked eye.
In this interpretation, the stars are depicted as if viewed from another part of the Galaxy. Their positions are rearranged, light falls in unexpected directions, and the usual nebulous reflections stretch into novel forms. Dusty arcs appear elongated, scattered, and free, no longer tied to an Earth-based gaze.
The artwork sparks the imagination with a question: How would the stars we know appear from somewhere else—and what does that reveal about us as observers? Through a color palette of cool blues and radiant strands of light, the artist evokes a sense of infinity, distance, and pure cosmic beauty that transcends the limits of human perspective.
