Title: Nebula M17 – Omega Nebula
Technique: Oil on canvas
Object Name: Nebula M17 – Omega Nebula – NGC 6618
Distance: 5,000 light-years
Viewing Direction: Constellation Sagittarius
Description:
This painting depicts a portion of Nebula M17, also known as the Omega Nebula, located about 5,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Sagittarius. With a diameter of approximately 15 light-years and a mass of around 800 solar masses, it is one of the brightest and most massive star-forming regions in our galaxy.
Although the artwork shows only a small section of this vast stellar nursery, it transports the viewer into the heart of one of the youngest and most vibrant regions in the Milky Way – a place where stars are just beginning their journey. The color contrasts of glowing gases – red hydrogen, bluish oxygen, and golden strands of dust – create an impression of motion and the dynamic flow of matter.
